Another Melody Drive in honor of genocide victims and survivors! Donate to Parade of One and get music! 4/4 through 4/18

I am excited to announce that I will be doing another Melody Drive to fundraise for Parade of One’s upcoming operations in Vietnam and Cambodia. Over the next two weeks, a $15 donation will get you an MP3 of Murambi Doina, a song I first performed at the UN Church Center for the 16th annual commemoration of the Rwandan Genocide, and any donation greater than $30 will buy a tune, composed and recorded by me, and dedicated to the person or thing of your choice (for birthdays or “just because.”) The mp3 will be emailed to you and the person to whom it’s dedicated within several days of your donation. Even larger donations can get you recognition on the Donor Wall of Melodies and a signed copy of the score for your melody. Since the anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide and Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah) are both right around the corner (April 7 and May 2 respectively,) I’d like to encourage you to dedicate your melodies to survivors or victims of those events (or of other similar atrocities.) I understand that many people would like to help a survivor but don’t know who or how, and there are people out there who would love to know that we are thinking about them, so I have some suggestions for people you can dedicate your song to, if you don’t already know anyone:

- Claudine M. was orphaned in the Rwandan Genocide, and now has started an organization to help orphans in Rwanda

- Jacob B. was born in Vienna and survived 4 years of forced labor, and is now a research fellow and family man in the USA

- Marc M. lost his father in the Rwandan Genocide and is now a student at the National University of Rwanda

- Alexandra L. was born in Poland and escaped to the US but lost family members in Treblinka.

Any donation greater than $15 can purchase a melody. Here’s the breakdown:

$15: You will be emailed an mp3 of Murambi Doina, a pensive klezmer piece I performed at the UN Church Center in memory of the Rwandan Genocide.

$30
: I will compose a short melody dedicated to the person or thing of your choice. The MP3 will be emailed to you and the person to whom it’s dedicated.

$60: I will create a short melody dedicated to the person or thing of your choice, and your tune will appear on the Donor Wall of Melodies at the Parade of One website, in recognition of your generosity, though you may also donate anonymously.

$100: I will create a short melody, and your tune will appear on the Parade of One website, with full recognition of your generosity. (Again you have the option of anonymity.) Plus, I will send you a signed, handwritten copy of the score.

$500: I will personally appear in your home or venue of your choice and perform for you and your guests. (Subject to my availability.)

When you make your donation, I will write and record the tune, and email the mp3 to both you and the person to whom it is dedicated in the next couple weeks. (If you purchase Murambi Doina for $15, I will email it right away.) Of course, you are still welcome to dedicate your melody to birthdays or anything else, for that matter. Don’t forget that Mothers Day is on the horizon! When you donate online or send your check, just be sure to include a note if you’d like to buy a melody with your donation.

This offer is valid through April 18, 2011.
